I’ve long been drawn to depictions of Christ and the cross, but I had never seen artwork that captured the literal moment of the Eleventh Station - ‘Jesus nailed to the cross’.The seed of a print was in my mind when I chanced upon the Église Saint-Paul -Saint Louis church in the Marais district of Paris and saw a beautiful painting of exactly what I had in mind. Back in London I immediately set to work on this print. My aim was to document the raw painful power of the scene without sensationalising it.
